Justice (Napad, 2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
Why Does Gadacz Agree to Return to the Police Force?
A bank robbery gone sideways leaves several women dead—women who were just there early to surprise their friend working the night shift. In the early hours of the morning, before the bank opened, a robber hijacked the place, and now the case is all over the news, creating a media frenzy. With an election right around the corner, city officials scramble to get this mess cleaned up fast. This is where Gadacz comes in. He is a former cop who used to be the top dog, respected by everyone in the force. But that all changed when rumors spread that he had ties to the Communist Party.
Gadacz’s medals were stripped, his badge gone. Now Gadacz spends his days selling garden gnomes to mom-and-pop shops just to get by. When the powers that be come knocking about the robbery, Gadacz isn’t exactly jumping at the chance. However, he makes a deal that he’ll catch the crooks, although only if they give him back his old job as chief of police once it’s all said and done.
The robbery has left a trail of tragedy, with multiple women losing their lives. The cops are eyeing the security guard as the inside man. However, as soon as Gadacz steps onto the crime scene, he quickly figures out that the robber wasn’t alone and definitely had some backup. As for the guard, Gadacz is sure he’s innocent, thinking why would the guy, who’s been squeaky clean his whole career, risk robbing a bank just a year before he retires? That too on a day when the bank isn’t even holding much cash? Gadacz’s gut feeling leads him to discover the poor guard’s body crammed into a vent, proving that the guard was definitely not part of the heist.
For What Reasons Did Gadacz Start to Suspect Kacper, Bartek, and Marek?
Gadacz pays a visit to Kacper Surmiak, the guy who swapped shifts with the security guard who ended up dead during the botched robbery. Kacper claims he switched shifts because he had to attend a friend’s swearing-in ceremony in Warsaw. He even gives the names of his friends, Bartek and Marek, for the cops to check his alibi.
Gadacz follows up and talks to Bartek and Marek, who back up Kacper’s story without skipping a beat. Gadacz’s detective instincts start to tingle because of how these guys remember the exact time they left for the ceremony as if they’ve rehearsed it. Also, there’s the fact that the bank’s alarm conveniently didn’t go off during the heist. Someone had to turn that off, and Kacper, being the guard, would know how to tamper with it.

Plus, one of Kacper’s friends just bought a fancy video store, which sets off all kinds of red flags. So, did Kacper and his friends actually pull off the heist? The film keeps it ambiguous at this point. However, there’s a strong hint that Kacper and his crew might have had a hand in the whole thing. Gadacz thinks the same way. Therefore, he makes sure the cops put Kacper under tight surveillance—just in case he’s hiding more than he’s letting on.
Why Did Kacper Rob the Bank and Kill the Witnesses?
Gadacz feels the heat and has just a few days to solve the case, and the pressure is coming from all sides. However, Gadacz knows the game well enough not to make rash moves and waits for the perfect moment, knowing that patience beats a reckless jump any day. To learn more about Kacper, Gadacz starts digging into his past. He heads out to the old state farm where Kacper grew up with his sister, Ewa, and their mother.
After their mom passed away, the siblings were dispatched off to an orphanage, where they stuck it out there for a few years until Kacper became an adult. This is when things start to spiral out of control. Ewa was adopted by another family, which crushed Kacper. He never wanted to be separated from his sister and had promised to make enough money to adopt her himself. But life had other plans, and Kacper never got the chance to keep that promise.
Gadacz pieces it all together and believes that Kacper’s broken promise, the dead-end job, and desperation led him to rob the bank. Kacper’s original plan was to rob the bank. Unfortunately, he had no choice but to kill the women to avoid leaving any witnesses. Afterward, Kacper and others broke into their vault. To their dismay, the vaults contained only a few thousand dollars rather than the million that Kacper had promised them.
What Become of Marek & Bartek?
When Kacper realizes Gadacz is getting a little too close to the truth, he tries to take him out, but that plan backfires. Gadacz knows exactly what Kacper’s been up to. The only problem is that he is missing the smoking gun, in this case, a murder weapon. Of course, without any hard evidence, there’s no case. So, Gadacz changes his strategy and goes after Bartek, the weakest link in the chain and the most likely to crack under pressure.
They’ve got recordings of Bartek low-key admitting to the robbery. But these recordings are obtained by illegally planting recording devices and won’t certainly hold up in court. They need a full confession, the murder weapon, or at least the stolen cash. Gadacz’s luck starts to turn, and Bartek agrees to go to the police and reveal everything. However, before Bartek can say a word, Kacper silences him. Not stopping there, Kacper kills Marek, too, making sure no one’s left to rat them out for the bank heist.
Justice (Napad, 2024) Movie Ending Explained:
What Happens to Kacper?
Kacper knows it’s only a matter of time before Gadacz puts the cuffs on him, so he decides to outsmart everyone. After killing Marek, he plants the stolen money on Marek’s farm and then surrenders to the cops. He then claims that he had nothing to do with the bank heist and shares he killed Marek in self-defense. As for Bartek, Kacper weaves a story in which Bartek took his own life out of guilt for killing innocent people during the robbery. No matter what evidence the police throw at him, Kacper stays calm, knowing it’s all circumstantial. Since there’s nothing solid to tie him to the crimes, he’s eventually released. However, he’s instructed not to leave the city.
On the final day, Gadacz finally finds the murder weapon. Turns out, the gun belonged to one of Kacper’s friends. Two days before the robbery, Kacper stole the gun, used it during the heist, and then returned it with a few rounds missing. The only reason his friend didn’t report it was because he knew if word got out, his career would end, and he’d likely end up in jail. When Kacper catches wind of Gadacz finding the gun, he panics, steals a taxi, and makes a break for it. Gadacz tracks him down to his sister Ewa’s house. In a last-ditch effort, Kacper pulls his gun on the cops. But before he can even fire a shot, Kacper is gunned down in the middle of the street.
